19 North Invites Community to Official Kick-off Meeting October 7th

19 North Alliance: committed to protect, promote, and revitalize North Central Phoenix neighborhood.

PHOENIX, ARIZONA – One year ago, an alliance formed to leverage momentum created by light rail construction along 19th Avenue. This powerhouse group, the 19 North Alliance leadership team, invites community members to an October 7th meeting unveiling plans the team is launching. Neighbors in the 19 North area (Montebello to Dunlap and 15th Avenue to 23rd Avenue) are invited to meet the Alliance members and discover ways to get actively involved. Projects underway include a community garden, partnering with Phoenix Police in the 7 Anchors mentoring program for local schools, and celebrating new branding of the area.

Several other initiatives are in the works, and as architects, developers and landowners in the area witness the intentional and highly effective movement of the 19 North Alliance, Chairperson Shannon McBride and others have been invited into planning meetings for future development along Northern Avenue and 19th Avenue. This community influence, insight, and investment help bring the right mix of new restaurants and businesses as well as ensuring a safe, walkable, unique destination.

The 19 North Alliance was born from this vision of collaborating, and the diversity represented is unprecedented. Around the 19 North leadership table sit faith communities, Washington Elementary Schools (WESD), representatives from Councilman Valenzuela’s office, City of Phoenix Neighborhood Services & Village Planning, local businesses like Abrazo, Devry, Beatitudes, Los Compadres and others, as well as neighborhood associations including State Street, Royal Palm, and Washington Park.

The public is invited to a community meeting on October 7, 2016, from 6-8pm at Open Door Fellowship Church (southeast corner of Butler Ave and 19th Ave) to hear more about the revitalization under way.  Contact Shannon McBride, 19 North Community Alliance Chair, with questions at

19 North is a collaborative community – where businesses, faith, the City of Phoenix, government, schools and neighborhood groups are working together to revitalize the area for all to enjoy.
